Quality Bistro

If you could transport one place into another, and that transplanted
place was as different as you could imagine from the destination, you might find your self in Quality Bistro in Midtown Manhattan.

While outside is a wide swath of Manhattan sidewalk, shaded by towering steel giants and redolent with street food and bus exhaust, inside the doors are warm and lush layers reminiscent of a French garden. Attached to this garden is an old manor house, and throughout both garden and house are birds upon birds.

As AvroKO set the tone with their interior design, Handwerk brought in paintings and carvings and ceramic sculptures of birds to liven the space

hand made, painted, carved, digitally altered, stretched, fired, found, assembled, wrapped, unwrapped
–
the curated walls changed day to day as the process played out organically
as a dialogue among all parties.

The result is a mixed flock of all sorts of birds, all in one place as they never
would be in the wild. Wooden songbirds from the forests of Germany share space with painted and plumed wading birds from the Caribbean. A porcelain game bird dialogues with a paper bird of prey.

During the holidays, the tragic and extinct dodo makes an appearance to brighten the season in the central tree.
